Our magnetic street lamp solution not only addressed the lighting pain points of the Jakarta shopping mall, but also increased the sales of the stores and reduced energy costs.
Case Details
A medium-sized retail mall in western Jakarta, with over 80 tenants including fashion stores, restaurants and e-retailers, is attempting to upgrade its outdated lighting system. Our tailor-made magnetic track light solution has become the perfect choice. This renovation not only addressed the lighting pain point of the shopping mall, but also increased the sales of the stores and significantly reduced energy costs.
Project Background:
The shopping mall was completed in 2018, covering an area of 15,000 square meters. It uses traditional fluorescent tubes and fixed halogen spotlights. With the expansion of the tenant base in the mall, this combination has become a burden. The main challenges include:
- Poor climate adaptability and durability: The high humidity in Jakarta causes frequent malfunctions of halogen spotlights and flickering of fluorescent lamps. The maintenance team replaces over 20 fixed lighting fixtures every week, incurs high replacement costs and disrupts the tenant's operations.
- Rigid lighting layout causes dissatisfaction among tenants: When tenants re-plan their display areas, the fixed spotlights cannot be repositioned. Many tenants complain that this old and dim lighting has dimmed the color of the goods and affected sales.
- Excessively high energy costs: Outdated lighting systems consume 145,000 kilowatt-hours per month, resulting in an energy bill of approximately 180 million Indonesian rupiah, which is a major operational burden. With the constantly rising electricity prices, the shopping mall urgently needs energy-saving alternatives.
- Atmosphere conflict: The dazzling cold white light emitted by the fluorescent tubes conflicts with the warm and cozy atmosphere that Indonesian shoppers prefer.
The goal of the shopping center is clear: to upgrade to a lighting system that can withstand the tropical climate of Jakarta, provide flexible layout adjustments for tenants, reduce energy costs by more than 30%, and conform to local aesthetic preferences.
Our tailor-made lighting solutions
We have designed an overall solution centered on 48V low-voltage magnetic track lights, aiming to meet the unique commercial and climatic requirements of Indonesia.
We chose a magnetic track system with a waterproof grade, which is crucial for withstanding the high humidity and occasional sandstorms in Jakarta. This system mainly includes three types of lamps, all of which have a high CRI (Color Rendering Index ≥90) to ensure accurate color representation of the products:
- Adjustable magnetic track spotlight: 3000K warm white spotlight, can be rotated 350° and tilted 90°. Tenants can reposition them within seconds to highlight new collections or promotional displays without the need for tools or electricians.
- Magnetic linear light: For public areas, the 4000K natural white linear light provides uniform illumination without glare. The slender grooved track seamlessly blends with the ceiling of the shopping mall, enhancing the modern aesthetic.
- RGB magnetic track lights: Used in restaurants and seasonal decorations (such as Eid al-Fitr and Christmas), the dimmable RGB lights can be adjusted according to the festival theme, which is crucial for attracting foot traffic during major festivals in Indonesia.
2. Address climate change and enhance energy efficiency
To cope with the tropical climate of Jakarta, we have chosen magnetic lamps with aluminum casings. When the magnetic track integrates with the ceiling, it leaves enough space for heat dissipation. All of our magnetic attraction lamps use led light sources, saving 40% of energy consumption compared to traditional lamps.
Project achievements
Half a year after the renovation, the shopping mall has achieved remarkable results in energy conservation, tenant satisfaction, business performance and other aspects
- Energy costs have been reduced by 40%:The magnetic rail light system has reduced monthly energy consumption from 145,000 kilowatt-hours to 87,000 kilowatt-hours, a reduction of 40%. This is equivalent to saving approximately 75.6 million Indonesian rupiah per month, with an expected return on investment of only 12 months.
- Tenant sales increased by 25%:High color rendering magnetic attraction lamps make headscarves, textiles and cosmetics look more vibrant and realistic, increasing customer dwell time by 18% and achieving a higher conversion rate. A survey of tenants found that 92% of them were satisfied with the flexibility of lighting, and 78% of them planned to extend their leases due to improved business performance.
- Reduce maintenance workload by 90%:Waterproof lamps eliminate frequent malfunctions: the replacement of lamps has dropped from over 20 per week to 2 per month.
Why are magnetic track lights an ideal choice for commercial Spaces
This case study of the Jakarta shopping center highlights three key reasons why magnetic street lamps are highly suitable for the business sector in Indonesia:
- Climate adaptability: The waterproof design can withstand the tropical humidity and dust of Indonesia, ensuring long-term durability.
- Tenant flexibility: Tool-free lighting adjustments meet the dynamic display needs of Indonesian retailers, reducing tenant complaints and increasing retention rates.
- Energy conservation and cultural alignment: LED technology reduces energy costs, while warm white high-color rendering lighting conforms to local aesthetic preferences and enhances the shopping experience.
