This case study explores how ultra-thin magnetic lamps can transform Spaces into a harmonious blend of traditional and modern comfort, adapting to the unique climate and design expectations of the UK.
Case Details
A 400-square-meter two-story villa is located on a hill in the UK. The villa is confronted with a delicate design dilemma: combining modern smart living with a high-end luxury style while overcoming the challenge of the typical low ceiling height of traditional British residences. A 6-millimeter ultra-thin magnetic lighting system, combining intangible aesthetics, flexible functionality and energy efficiency, seamlessly integrates with the villa's beam ceiling and contemporary features. This case study explores how ultra-thin magnetic lamps can transform Spaces into a harmonious blend of traditional and modern comfort, adapting to the unique climate and design expectations of the UK.
Project Challenge
- Renovation restrictions: Strict local regulations prohibit alterations to beam-type ceilings or the installation of bulky recessed lighting, excluding traditional ceiling installations.
- Low ceiling adaptability: The ceiling height is only 2.4 meters, and the heavy lighting may make the space feel cramped and oppressive.
- Multi-functionality of lighting: The villa requires layered lighting, transitioning from family dining to evening entertainment, while supplementing the rich natural light shining in through the window sashes.
- Energy efficiency: The owner requests energy-saving solutions, with a focus on low wattage and long-lasting lighting, to reduce the carbon footprint and energy costs.
After evaluating traditional chandeliers, recessed downlights and standard track lights, the design team chose a 6mm ultra-thin magnetic lighting system, paired with Osram led modules and intelligent control, to address every challenge.
-
We chose an ultra-thin surface-mounted magnetic rail. Unlike the standard track lights over 25 millimeters, this ultra-thin profile seamlessly integrates with the beam structure and is almost invisible on the ceiling when not illuminated.

-
Modular lighting modules for layered lighting
The magnetic design of this system enables the four lighting modules to be flexibly paired, tailored to the function of each area. All lighting fixtures are compatible with the ceiling-mounted tracks.
- Anti-glare grille lights: Located above the dining table and kitchen island, these modules feature a beam Angle of 30° and a color rendering index of Ra≥90 to highlight the oak furniture and stone countertops of the villa, imitating the warm glow of traditional candlelight.
- Linear floodlights: Installed on the ceiling of the living area, they provide soft ambient lighting, supplement the natural light from the window sashes, and eliminate dark corners in the villa.
- Adjustable spotlights: Used to highlight the antique pottery collected by customers, these modules can be repositioned magnetically, making them ideal for displaying collectibles without the need for rewiring.

-
Integrate with the intelligent control system
This system integrates the existing smart home ecosystem of the villa (compatible with Alexa and Google Home), allowing customers to adjust the brightness and color temperature of the lamps on their mobile phones. For instance, during the day, adjust the color temperature of the lamps to 4000K to supplement the lighting and enhance the work efficiency of the kitchen and home office. For evening entertainment, the color temperature of the lamps was adjusted to 3000K, creating a comfortable atmosphere for the dinner party.
Projct Result: Tradition satisfies modern comfort
- Heritage Harmony: The 6-millimeter ultra-thin track is almost invisible on the beam ceiling, preserving the charm of the villa while adding modern functionality, earning praise from the local conservation committee.
- Enhanced space: The understated design avoids visual confusion, making the 2.4-meter ceiling feel more spacious
- Lifestyle adjustment: The smart lighting mode seamlessly ADAPTS to daily life in the UK, bringing great convenience to life.
- Cost and energy savings: Reducing energy expenses and minimal maintenance aligns with the customer's goal of sustainable and low-energy consumption living.
Conclusion: Timeless design, modern functionality
